Julianne will guide you on a gentle, therapeutic, multi-sensory forest walk for about 2-3 hours, inviting you to safely discover and engage with the species and spirit of a place.
Forest Ecotherapy is a guided modality of ecotherapy in which nature itself does the healing* for our mind, body, heart and spirit within a forest setting. It combines mindful, pleasurable, multi-sensory nature connection experiences, scientific nature interpretation, and ecopsychology to not only revitalize our physical health, but open our perceptions to the dynamic life force around us, deeply connecting us with trees and the natural world as an ongoing resource of energy and community.
'Forest Therapy' originated in Japan in the 1970's as Forest Bathing or 'shinrin-yoku', and is now a growing, varied and evolving international therapeutic modality that has scientifically proven physical and psychological medical health benefits including:
Certain species have been identified as having 'phytoncides' – specific immune system enhancing properties. Research has also shown that the higher the biodiversity of the forest, the greater the health benefits.
Julianne has guided groups and individuals in various ecosystems around the U.S. and internationally. Her unique modality of Forest Ecotherapy weaves together forest sensory skills, arboriculture, nature interpretation, inter-species communication, shamanic-intuitive healing techniques, over 23 years experience in environmental education, wilderness education and ecopsychology, with her own intimate nature connection with over 70 species of trees in 13 countries, so far.
*Note that Forest Ecotherapy is therapeutic in nature and does take the place of clinical psychotherapy or medical treatment.
